Fort Lee anchors the local housing market
Prince George County calls Fort Lee its largest economic asset; the post is home to the Army's Combined Arms Support Command, the Quartermaster, Ordnance and Transportation Schools and the Army Logistics University. Many buyers and sellers here are working around report dates, so be ready to talk timing as well as price.

Real estate tax relief is due August 1
The Commissioner of the Revenue offers relief to owners 65 or older or totally and permanently disabled as of December 31: 100% with household income up to $40,000 and 50% from $40,001 to $55,000, with assets outside the home of no more than $130,000. Real estate applications are due August 1. If a sale is coming, ask the office at (804) 722-8740 how it affects relief.

Most homes date from 1970 to 2010
The county's draft 2045 plan says most homes were built between 1970 and 2010, and that the smaller share built before 1970 is more prone to aging infrastructure and energy inefficiency. It also puts Fort Lee's daily population at about 29,000 and says the Fort drives demand for local housing. For an older home, records of updates go a long way with buyers.
